NEW PLAYGROUND, SPRING 2004

In April and May, 2004, Pine Grove Members removed our outdated (but beloved) playground equipment and erected a completely modern playground.

Led by Nick Urdiales, groups of Members worked in shifts over several weekends (and some weekdays!) to prepare the grounds, assemble the large structure, construct the wood borders, lay ground cover, and spread wood chips.

The Cooperative saved monies in its Capital Equipment Fund for a number years to prepare for this purchase. The installation of this new playground was a dramatic and highly visible example of how a cooperative can work!

Of course, Pine Grove shows its cooperative colors every day, as parents participate in the classrooms, in clean up workshops, and in the planning and running of the school. It is members' hands-on involvement in all aspects of the school that helps make Pine Grove what it is - a great place for children to learn and play, and a rewarding experience for parents.

Many alumni undoubtedly have fond memories of our old playground equipment, pictured at the left. They will be happy to know that we saved the giraffe, and were able to keep the playhouse!
